Routing 2020 Sounds into Ableton Live with Loopback

Loopback Settings

This tip uses Loopback and Ableton Live, but you can do something similar with routing apps like BlackHole and other DAWs.

Loopback Settings

Loopback Settings

  • Click + New Virtual Device to create a new virtual device.
  • Rename the virtual device to your liking.
  • Make sure that Path-Thru is in Sources.
  • Add an Output Channel.

Ableton Live Settings

Ableton Live Settings

  • Change the audio input device to a Loopback virtual device.
  • Make sure Stereo Input 1/2 and Stereo Input 3/4 are enabled in Input Config.

2020 Settings

2020 Settings

  • Change the audio output device to a Loopback virtual device.
  • On a device with four or more outputs, MST1 plays from outputs 1-2 and MST2 from outputs 3-4 at first, so Ableton Live receives them on Stereo Input 1/2 and Stereo Input 3/4. To choose other outputs, use Bus Output in the AUDIO tab.
  • Now you can record MST1 and MST2 into Ableton Live.
